RecipSys 200 is a transmitter based monitoring- and protection system for reciprocating machinery, that offers advanced rod displacement measurements for rod drop and rod flex applications. The 2-channel system provides essential monitoring on key mechanical indicators and can be used as a stand-alone system or as an add-on to advanced vibration monitoring systems.
The concept of triggered rod drop
RecipSys 200 indicates the vertical movement of a piston inside a cylinder by measuring the rod displacement on the vertical axis. Rod drop measurements provide crucial information on the wear of the rider bands.
The position of the rod changes through the course of the cycle, influenced by the internal forces. To ensure accuracy of a rod drop measurement, the position should be measured at a specific point in the cycle. By using a phase trigger, the RecipSys 200 is able to filter the displacement signal to the right phase angle. The triggered signal is much more accurate that any overall measurement and can monitor both machines with fixed RPM and variable RPM.

Scalable transmitter approach
Reciprocating compressors are machines with complex behavior, that require specific monitoring solutions. RecipSys 200 is designed to be flexible – the DIN rail transmitter layout offers excellent scalability and integrability. Multiple modules can be used for 3 or more cylinder applications and different transmitters can be added to include other variables. Every individual system is simple and effective, monitoring a single key indicator. The industry standard outputs can be used for integrations with other advanced monitoring systems.
5 reasons why
Rod displacement is a key mechanical indicator for reciprocating machinery, to detect and trend rider band wear.
Monitoring rod displacement is only relevant if it is understood well. The transmitter-based layout offers a simple measurement concept. It focuses on a single (mechanical) indicator and provides clear outputs, for direct alarms or further processing. It is easy to configure and simplifies the user experience for installation, maintenance and instrumentation use.
Monitoring systems for reciprocating machinery are often offered as a complete monitoring system, which might not be suitable for smaller equipment. The transmitter-based layout of the rod drop module offers excellent scalability to fit every monitoring need. Multiple modules can be connected to monitor 3 or more cylinder applications. Other transmitter systems, like crosshead /casing vibration, impact or temperature, can be added to create cost-effective, suitable monitoring solutions.
The rod drop module can be used as a stand-alone rod displacement monitoring system or as an add-on to existing monitoring equipment. The system is suitable for various sensor brands and the industry standard outputs can be used for integration with different systems like PLC, SCADA, control systems or other advanced monitoring systems.
The RecipSys 200 is a simple and effective rod displacement monitoring system for monitoring key mechanical behaviour. The cost-effectiveness and scalability of the transmitter layout makes the system suitable for every monitoring need. The simplicity of the system supports quick installation and very low maintenance needs.
